Resonance Structures



What are resonance structures?


When two or more Lewis dot structures can correctly represent a molecule's electrons. Molecules which have resonance structures, e.g. O$_{3}$, never really exist in one form or another. Instead, they are constantly in flux, oscillating between resonance structures:
