Hydrogen Bonds

What is a hydrogen bond?

An intermolecular attractive force in which a positively-polarized hydrogen is attracted to a negatively-polarized atom in a nearby molecule.

What are the three molecules that form hydrogen bonds?

  1. Nitrogen
  2. Oxygen
  3. Flourine

Note: Hydrogen bonds are key to life. For example, hydrogen bonds increase the stability of DNA and direct the shape of the double helix.
