Chemical Reactions

What are four common chemical reactions seen in inorganic chemistry?

Table 31.1: Four common chemical reactions
Red-ox $2Fe + 6HCl \rightarrow 2FeCl_{3} + 3H_{2}$
Note: The element that is displaced is reduced (H), the element that does the displacing is oxidized (Fe).

Displacement $AgNO_{3} + HCl \rightarrow AgCl + HNO_{3}$

Decomposition $ 2HgO \rightarrow 2Hg + O_{2}$

Acid-Base $2NaOH + H_{2}SO_{4} \rightarrow Na_{2}SO_{4}+2H_{2}O$
(or neutralization)
